Writing Requirements & Editorial Exceptions
Service Area Pages (SAPs) and Geo Pages (GEOs) have distinct editorial intents based on how each page type functions within the site structure and search ecosystem. Writing must always reflect how the business actually operates, even when a page is sold or generated in a way that does not perfectly align with the business model.
Service Area Pages (SAPs)
By default, Service Area Pages are written for businesses that travel to serve customers.
SAP copy should:
- Emphasize regional coverage across multiple towns or cities
- Reinforce a “we come to you” service model
- Avoid implying a physical office in individual service towns
- Avoid language suggesting customers travel to a fixed location
Editorial Exception: SAPs Sold to Location-Based Businesses
There are cases where Service Area Pages are sold to location-based businesses. This scenario cannot currently be system-controlled.
When this occurs:
- The Content Writer must modify the generated SAP copy
- SAP content must follow Geo-style writing rules, including:
- References to a physical location
- Language indicating customers travel to the business
- All SAP structural, technical, and layout constraints must still be followed
Geo Pages (GEOs)
Geo Pages are always written for location-based businesses.
GEO copy must:
- Clearly establish the existence of a physical location
- Communicate that customers travel to the business
- Avoid any “we come to you” or regional service-area language
Editorial Priority
In all cases:
- Editorial accuracy takes precedence
- Content must reflect how the business actually operates
- Writers are expected to adjust copy when page type and business model do not align
