Background Hero Video

Background videos are allowed only within the VideoHero layout, and only on homepage and Category Landing Pages (CATs). They serve as subtle atmospheric motion behind the hero area and must never interfere with readability, accessibility, or conversion performance.

Device Behavior
Hero background videos are displayed only on desktop and tablet devices.

Videos are not used on mobile devices. Mobile screens introduce significant performance constraints and limited visual space, which reduces load speed and often makes the video effect difficult or impossible to perceive behind hero text and interface elements.

Instead, mobile devices display a standard hero image. This image may be:

• A client-provided hero image, or
• An appropriate stock image selected for the business vertical

This ensures the hero section remains fast, readable, and visually clear across all mobile devices.

Where Background Videos Are Allowed

• Homepage hero (desktop and tablet)
• Tier 1 and Tier 2 Category Landing Page (CAT) hero (desktop and tablet)
• Not allowed on core pages, service area pages, utility pages, or anywhere else on the site
  

Background Video Requirements

Background videos must meet the following requirements:

• Be landscape orientation
• Be subtle (no readable text, dialogue, narration, or rapid motion)
• Play silently
• Maintain clear visibility of hero content:
• H1
• H2
• Motivating Factors
• CTA buttons
• Be high enough resolution to avoid blurring at full width

Background videos may not:

• Contain text overlays, logos, or promotional content
• Include people speaking, staff introductions, or testimonials
• Be portrait orientation
• Be a commercial or advertisement
• Contain heavy action or distracting motion

Note

• iPhone users may see videos do not autoplay
• All mobile users (android / iphone) may see videos autoplay when low power mode is enabled

Recommended Background Video Styles

The idea background videp should provide soft, ambient motion that enhances the design without competing with hero text or calls to action.

• Running faucet water
• Lawn mower cutting grass
• Drone footage over properties or job sites
• Painter rolling paint on a wall
• Soft office b-roll (typing hands, blurred movement)
• Ambient nature scenes (trees swaying, clouds, gentle waves)
  

Not Recommended / Prohibited Background Videos

These may not be used as hero backgrounds:

• Any video containing readable text
• Any commercial or promotional clip
• Videos requiring audio
• Portrait videos
• Testimonial or staff videos
• Fast-paced or high-motion sequences
• Footage that obscures hero legibility
