Hibu Policy

All image and file assets uploaded to Hibu One must be renamed using a standardized, descriptive naming convention that prioritizes asset purpose and context before the business name. This ensures files are easy to scan, sort, and locate within the platform.

At the core, all client-supplied or Hibu-added image and file assets—including PNGs, JPGs, SVGs, GIFs, icons, and favicons—must include asset context, the business name, and a page reference and/or number when applicable.

Why File Naming Matters

Search engines and internal tools rely on filenames to understand, organize, and retrieve assets. Files with generic or unclear names reduce visibility, slow down asset selection, and create unnecessary friction during builds and updates.

Well-structured filenames support:

• Faster asset discovery
• Cleaner asset libraries
• Better internal organization across pages and file types
• Improved accessibility and search relevance when paired with descriptive alt text

Why the Naming Order Changed

Previously, filenames led with the business name. While consistent, this approach caused a usability issue when browsing or searching files in the asset library.

When filenames are truncated in list views, the most important part of the filename—the asset’s purpose—is often hidden.

Image File Naming Best Practices

All image and file names must follow these standards:

• Use lowercase letters and hyphens
• Do not use spaces, underscores, or special characters
• Keep filenames concise and descriptive
• Do not include legal suffixes (Inc, LLC, Corp, etc.)
• Replace ampersands with “and”
• Example: jimi-and-stevies-guitar-shop

When multiple images share the same purpose, add a number at the end of the filename. Use leading zeros for consistency (e.g., -01 , -02 ).

Note: If the same image is used in multiple locations (homepage, gallery, video splash, etc.), it does not need to be renamed for each use.

Notes & Clarifications

• Filenames are not the same as image labels used within the Content Library or Collections.
• Numbers do not need to reflect display order on the page.
• The Hibu design team is responsible for renaming all uploaded files and applying appropriate alt text.
