Definition
A Photo Gallery displays a collection of images within a structured layout that may open in a lightbox or link to other site destinations. Galleries are intended to visually reinforce credibility and demonstrate real examples of a client’s offerings.
Gallery Limits & Placement Rules
- Core pages (Service or Product pages) may include up to one (1) photo gallery per page.
- The Main Gallery page may include up to 20 separate galleries.
- Each gallery may contain up to 50 client-supplied images.
- Overuse of galleries or large image sets across multiple pages may be restricted to protect page speed and search performance.
Main Gallery Page Structure
The Main Gallery page is intended to organize and present large sets of client imagery in a clear, scannable format.
- The Main Gallery page may include up to six (6) galleries.
- Each gallery may contain up to 50 client-supplied images.
- Galleries should be grouped by service, category, or theme (for example: Roofing, Siding, Windows, Kitchens).
- This structure supports clients who provide a high volume of imagery while maintaining usability, page performance, and visual clarity.
When a client has imagery spanning multiple services or categories, grouping images into separate galleries is preferred over creating a single oversized gallery.
Design & Image Treatment
Designers may adjust gallery imagery to best showcase the client’s work, including:
- Cropping or adjusting images for improved composition
- Repositioning focal points to highlight key subjects
- Applying optional design elements such as headlines, text overlays, or buttons when appropriate
Gallery layout, styling, and presentation are determined by the designer based on the client’s imagery, brand tone, and desired visual impact. Layout selections are not limited to default section styles and should complement the orientation and type of images provided.
Consistency Standards
While galleries may vary by page or purpose, galleries that include text, buttons, or overlays must maintain a
consistent design approach within the same site. This includes spacing, typography, alignment, and element placement to ensure a cohesive visual experience.
Performance & SEO Considerations
Photo galleries must balance visual impact with performance and usability.
- Large image sets or excessive galleries may negatively impact page speed and search performance.
- Grouping images by service, theme, or category improves navigation and clarity.
- Galleries should prioritize relevance and quality over quantity.
File Naming & Accessibility Standards
It is expected that the Hibu design team will:
- Rename all uploaded gallery images for organization and consistency
- Apply descriptive alt text to all gallery images to meet accessibility and SEO standards
